Rules and Regulations

General

The badge is the property of the State of Maryland, Department of Assessments and Taxation and is issued for the exclusive use of the above employee.

Replacement badges will be reissued at an additional cost to the employee.

Use and Disposition

The purpose of this badge is to identify the Assessor as the lawful representative of the Department when reviewing properties or otherwise dealing with the public outside the office.  Accordingly when in those circumstances, Assessors must wear their badge so that it is visible and have with them their State issued photo identification.

Employees are prohibited from using their badge for personal or financial benefit or as a means of obtaining privileges not otherwise available to them, or for avoiding consequences of illegal acts.  Employees are also prohibited from allowing third parties to use their badge for any purpose.

A badge shall not be used for any purpose other than those specified.  The badge shall remain in the bearer’s personal possession or, when not in use, be properly secured.  They must not be left or stored in a manner which allows access by unauthorized persons. Loss, theft, or damage should be immediately reported to the Supervisor.

Misuse of this badge may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of State employment.

Cessation of Employment

Upon retirement, resignation, termination, reassignment, or transfer the assessor shall return the badge to the Supervisor.
